Southern France 2004 Part 2

Found more pictures of my Southern France 2004 trip.
I do miss that part of France after all. The Southern part is so warm and welcoming.

Short Film Shoot

Short Film Shoot

After exactly 2 years, we are doing our second short film. Can’t believe it, does time fly so fast?
This is one of the many books brought back from Taiwan. Getting inspiration from it for tomorrow’s shoot.

bicycle

And the biggest improvement is I am no longer afraid of riding side by side with another cyclist. This is the best part.

Dreamy Forest

Dreamy Forest

Love this photo so much that it is now the background image for my blog. :)

Finding time to start on my Taiwan blog posts amidst the preparations for my Big Day is tough.

I can’t believe I have spent the last few nights researching till late for suitable locations. The amount of time spent could be used to do a lot more stuff. But well, it’s an important event, the soonest we can confirm the venue, the soonest we can begin arrangements for the remaining stuff.

Video: Beautiful Encounters

Beautiful encounters filled the trips with happiness.
Taiwan 2013 is a memorable trip because of the people we met and the places we went to.

This is the first video from Taiwan Trip 2013, filmed at Yilan County’s Da Jin Elementary School.
We did not have any fixed plans after our stay at Happiness 20 Farm, so we had the opportunity to visit the little owners’ school and watched their performance. It was indeed enjoyable editing the clips.

I hope to complete the rest of the videos soon.

Refreshing Look

I enjoy nature walks. I simply love the scent of the forest, it’s refreshing.
And now I have just given this blog a new look. The background image is a photo that was taken at Alishan. A very dreamy feel, isn’t it? Totally love it!
Not only is there a new look, but a new Chinese name too.
一路 sounds like Iro.
Iro is a Japanese word, and the Kanji character is 色.
色 sounds like 摄.
攝 is related to photography/videography.
步客 represents someone who walks.

Video: Japan 日本 – En Route to Mt. (Part 3)

The weather was perfect.
The wind direction was in our favour.
Visibility was very clear.
We were really lucky that we could catch the sulphur lake in action.
The view was magnificent. This was definitely one of the highlights of my Kyushu Trip!

Taiwan 2012: Ready, Set, Breakfast

There is this little breakfast shop near our hostel, so we decided to try it the next morning after we arrived.

There are quite a number of choices available.
Simple dishes. Simply delicious!

In the end, it became our breakfast place for the next few mornings. :)

My Ideal Kitchen

3 qualities of my ideal kitchen: cheap, functional, pretty.
So, let me visualise the end result. I am a person who loves space. The kitchen island is an interesting idea but our kitchen is too small for that. In order to fulfill my wish, a tentative idea is to have one that acts like a detachable island table. During normal circumstances, I can have it positioned against the wall. Yet I want to be able to have the flexibility to move it to the centre of the kitchen when I need to do some filming. I hope this design will work.

Next is the oven.
I am not sure if I am cut out for baking but I want to learn baking. And I intend to start trying that when my new place is ready. So I just started doing some research on ovens this morning.
Before today, I was totally clueless about ovens. Now I know there are two main types: convention and convection.
Apparently convection is better because it has a fan to help circulate the hot air inside, so that the food cooks faster. Consistent baking results and even heat distribution are also two of the biggest reasons to buy a convection oven.
I don’t think I want a microwave oven, but would like a multi-purpose one, to bake, grill, roast and steam.
I will continue my research.

First Jog in 2013

Had my first jog after so many years! Jogged about 2+km in the woods, never thought it was such a good feeling.
And a totally healthy feeling too, because the air was so fresh.
Conclusion: It’s amazing to jog in the forest.
Looking forward to next Sunday. :)

Onsen Onsen 温泉乐 (to be continued)

A wonderful full day onsen experience, 3 onsens in 4 hours.
I love Kurokawa!

We took a 3hr Kyushu Odan Bus ride from Kumamoto to Kurokawa. But it’s definitely a ride well worth it.
This quaint little place is quiet and gives you a peaceful feeling.

*More photos and video of Kurokawa coming up.*

Mt. Aso

It was a bright and sunny day today, best for our Mt. Aso outing. Great! Woke up early to catch the earliest bus at 8.16am from Kumamoto Bus Terminal.

Filmed a lot of footages along the way and at Mt. Aso. Fantastic scenery.
*There will be a video on this.*

Blocks of sulphur for sale.

This is a walkway that leads further into the volcanic desert land, which majority of the tourists would give it a miss, because their main purpose is to view the Nakadake Crater. Think it’s out of bounds if the wind conditions are not favourable. Since we were not in a rush to go anywhere else, we decided to take a stroll.

Kumamoto Castle (to be continued)

image

Kumamoto Castle is indeed impressive.
I was here in April 2004 for a filming trip during the cherry blossom period. It was for work, so the place didn’t leave any deep impression in me.
*To be continued. More photos coming up.*

After our Kumamoto Castle visit, we went to the bus terminal and bought bus tickets to Aso for tomorrow and Kurokawa for Monday.

Taking the earliest bus at 8.16am, had thought of squeezing in Kurokawa as well, since it’s along the same route. However, considering the fact that tomorrow is a Sunday, it might be crowded, and we would only have 4 hours to play with, we decided to shift our Kurokawa trip to Monday, to avoid the crowd so that we can enjoy a relaxing full day onsen experience.

Fukuoka 福冈

image

Registered for this freespot service at seattle’s best coffee cafe. Hope it is successful. :)

I think I like the easy pace here in Fukuoka. It’s a city but somehow I don’t find it crowded and stressing.
The passengers and cyclists all seem to blend in well together even though they are using the same pavement, and notice the speed is steady and constant. You find no hurry in them.

In Transit

image

Waiting for transit flight at HongKong airport.
For this Kyushu trip, information rsearch was abit of a problem because there were limited books available, be it at the library or bookstores.
Just now, we finally managed to grab one up-to-date Kyushu chinese guide book at HK airport, Page One bookstore. Great.

Anyway, this is going to be a most free and easy trip for us, because we have booked nothing else except our first 3 nights’ lodging.
How our everyday itinerary is like, where we are going to stay next…everything is not confirmed. We have not even purchased our JR pass yet.
This will be the most flexible trip I have gone on so far.
Good luck to us!

Absurdity of Life

The Hedgehog

Hedgehog aka roadkill – easily run over by the modern life, the modern people.

The goldfish is Paloma, the girl. In a sense, Renee saved her. When Paloma announced at the dining table that she wants to be a janitor, she no longer wants to commit suicide. Her looking at the crushed pills and pondering only emphasize this.
Even though Renee suffered the fate of many a hedgehog, she found Kakuro before she left. He was the only one who bothered to get to know both Renee and Paloma and appreciate them.

“As Paloma tiptoes around these two, she is drawn to their quirky personal authenticity. Acknowledging the parts of ourselves that we keep hidden is one of the themes of a film that poignantly celebrates the autonomous inner life, which is exquisitely evoked by Gabriel Yared’s tender score.”

And yes, I love the music used…never so appropriate…

Life is forever absurd. How we travel the road of life till the end, we decide.

Countdown to Kyushu: 6 days to go

Finally, the air tickets are booked.
And a week later, we will be on our way to Kyushu! Hooray!

Last year March, I was all ready to set off for Tokyo, air tickets and accommodation were all booked. We did not make it eventually.
But I guess everything happens for a reason. This time round, I am going on this trip with a more specific purpose in mind. It’s an opportunity to bring my PROJECT back to life again, in a better way.

During my previous personal trips, Tokyo was always included in the itinerary. Therefore, we only needed to research and plan for the other half of the journey.
However, this trip is quite a tough one because of the number of places we are going in 2 weeks.
I went to Beppu and Mt Aso for a filming trip in 2004, but it was for work, and I didn’t take much notice of the scenery then.
So this Kyushu trip will be a fresh experience for me.

Countdown: 6 days to go.

Taipei 2012 Day 1

*Video on Ning Xia Night Market coming soon*

Ning Xia Night Market

A “New” Journey

Starting from this Taipei trip, I am going to film my journeys with my new camera, and transform them into moving visuals. Definitely more work, but I think I will enjoy.

Nov 01 2009

Jumped out of bed at 6+ for an early morning onsen experience. We had requested for our breakfast to be served late after 8am. Managed to get the key to the outdoor private bath! Yes!

We walked a very short distance from the hotel to the open air private onsen house. There are 2 private onsens here. The other one was already occupied when we reached.

The steam from the onsen welcoming us as we stepped out from the changing room into the open air. I have always enjoyed the onsen experience ever since I first tried it in 2001. I think one can really get addicted to “onsen-soaking”, but do take note the maximum duration you can stay inside should be around 20-30 minutes. .

Nov 01 2009

Maybe because it was a Sunday, when we walked out of Yamagata Station, what welcomed us was a quiet town. The streets were super wide…there weren’t many people and I think i can roll on my side from the station to our hotel without bumping into anyone.

There were only a few hours of daylight left after we checked into the hotel, we decided to visit his nearby hot spring town, Kaminoyama Onsen

Kaminoyama Onsen 上山市

Here we are at Kaminoyama Station.

Kaminoyama is a sleepy town with no high rise buildings and it is one of the many locations located in Yamagata prefecture that was used in the Oscar winning Japanese movie “Departures”. We had watched the movie in Singapore but we didn’t expect it when we stumbled upon the home of the male and female leads (below photo), right here in Kaminoyama! What a surprise!

A friendly staff with the attire that was worn by Hirosue Ryōko in the movie.

This was the stool used by the actor (本木雅弘 Motoki Masahiro) in the movie.
The word 納棺 (nōkan) means “encoffinment” – the preparation of the body of a deceased person and placement of it in a coffin, especially in a ceremonial or ritualistic manner.
What was written on the cardboard: When Daigo was troubled about whether to accept the encoffinment job offer, he sat on this stool to think and consider about it.
